If you are interested in the history of the struggle for independence of the Republic of Indonesia, then Museum Joang 45 is one of the places that you must visit. Museum located inside Building Joang '45, Jl. Menteng Raya 31, Jakarta keeps a number of historical records on various events prior to the independence of Indonesia. Building Joang 45 was originally a Schomper Hotel building built around 1920-1938, managed by L.C. Schomper, a citizen of Dutch descent.
During the Japanese occupation, the hotel was taken over by Ganseikanbu Sendenbu (Propaganda Department) and later known as Gedung Menteng 31. This building became the headquarters of a political education program held for a number of youth leaders who played a role in the independence era, among others Sukarni, Chaerul Saleh, AM Hanafi and Adam Malik. They are better known as 'Pementric Menteng 31', who became the actor behind the kidnapping of Soekarno, Hatta and Fatmawati to Rengasdengklok a day before independence. The youth figures were nurtured by Sukarno, Hatta, Moh. Yamin, Sunaryo and Achmad Subarjo.
In this museum exhibited a number of paintings about the events surrounding the proclamation of independence of Indonesia. There are also several dioramas, among others, which describe the atmosphere of Gedung Menteng 31 in the independence period and the speech of Soekarno in the Large Meeting at the Field of IKADA on 19 September 1945. There is also a documentary archive of photographs and busts of the leaders of the independence movement. Other collections contained in this museum are three presidential vehicles used by the first President and Vice President of RI.
